Rules of the Exercise

  • 1
TRADITIONAL SCULPTORS - - Sculpt the female form (just the body, not the hands, head, or feet -unless you feel confident enough to try it) according to either the provided imagery, or the one from Pose Space.
  • 2
Achieve an authentic translation of what you see in the picture to your clay figurine. Pay attention to the correct proportions and muscle shapes with the given pose.
  • 3
Upload a combination image (1 single image!) of the four views of the sculpture (front, left, right, and back view) via the Submission tab at the top.
  • 4
DIGITAL SCULPTORS - - You can participate in this exercise, but there are a few added layers to this. To pass this exercise with a digital sculpt, take a look at the following tasks: Your primary goal - to make me believe you sculpted in clay!
  • 5
Pose and sculpt an anatomically correct female figurine
  • 6
Texturize the final sculpt, and use appropriate lighting and rendering techniques to present me with an image that looks like a photo taken of a real, traditional clay sculpture.
  • 7
Upload a combination image (1 single image!) of the four views of the sculpture (front, left, right, and back view) via the Submission tab at the top.
Putting Your Knowledge To The Test If you’ve finished watching the lessons of chapter one and you feel confident and eager to try your hand at sculpting human muscle anatomy, this is your chance! You can use these three images as pose reference: 3_1-Exercise Download these in full resolution - including the muscle diagram overlay - at the top from the Download section of this exercise! You can also create a free account on Pose Space. Just by creating this free account you will get two, high resolution turntable poses of both a male and a female. Each set has over 20 images, showing the pose from all sides and obviously in good lighting. If you want to use these images instead, please use the female model. Use the anatomical reference sheets for muscle anatomy to check back on the various muscles and their location.

The Goal

What you will want to achieve is a convincing replication of either the pose posted above, or the free pose you can get from Pose Space. Once you’re finished, submit an image that shows your sculpture from all four sides; front, left, right and the back, in a large enough format so that the details are visible and I will give you feedback. If you get stuck or have any questions in between, please use the Questions tab at the top to pose the question and I will get back to you as soon as I can! Happy sculpting everyone, I’m looking forward to seeing your results!
