Make this a place you'd want to live.

You can either upgrade the house that we worked on in the last few lessons or create your own! There should be enough details on or around your house to suggest that human beings are living in it comfortably. The purpose of this exercise is to get comfortable with box modeling tools, and the best way to do that is to create a large variety of simple objects.

If you need ideas, look at reference photos or walk outside and check out the buildings in your area. Details like door handles, windows, trim, hinges, electrical boxes, pipes, gutters, shingles, etc... would be a great place to start.

Rules of the Exercise

  • 1
The house must at least have a door, windows, and a roof.
  • 2
The house should look comfortable and convenient to live in.
  • 3
All details should be appropriately sized in metric or imperial units.
  • 4
Render must be OpenGL, with Matcap shading and Ambient Occlusion.

Hi there, I’m a 3D artist and designer for the CG Cookie crew. Outside the studio I’m a big fan of hiking, reading, watching movies, writing, and consuming excessive amounts of tea.
