Traditional: Sketching Tips
Even as a digital artist, it is essential that you keep practicing in a traditional medium. Sketching is less forgiving than drawing in digital format, because you can only rely on yourself and your understanding of composition, lighting or anatomy - there are no plug-ins or functions to help you out. As you practice until you get it right, you will grow your skill and become a stronger artist, which will translate into your digital art. So let’s roll up our sleeves and take a look at some great sketching tips! What tools are used in this tutorial?
- We switch between three pencils depending on what the subject matter is: .7 (typically a mechanical pencil) .5 and .3 mm pencils: .7 (typically mechanical pencil) .5 and .3 mm pencils
- Standard sketchbook. Most sketchbooks are suitable, as long as the paper isn’t too thin.
- Kneaded Rubber Eraser (the one that looks like grey silly putty)
